All magneto gears are pinned from the factory, see page 25, Installing the Magneto - "drill with a #31 (120") drill bit", of the 1944-48 Indian Chief Overhaul Manual & Owners Manual page 24, Ignition Timing - all Indian twin models.
Remember the pin locates the timing, the taper does all the holding between shaft & gear and these tapers are good
